2014/15 Season Announcement

Glasgow Music Theatre is pleased to announce its 2014/15 season. Opening the season with a bang, GMT in Concert will this year take place on the old Renfrew Ferry in August. Hotter than a blowtorch on its heels will be auditions for Flashdance - The Musical, and in May 2015 GMT returns to the Webster Theatre (formerly the Lansdowne Church) for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

Flashdance - The Musical

Tue 20 - Sat 24 January 2015, Eastwood Park Theatre

Pre-Audition info night: Wed 3 September

Auditions: Sat 13 to Mon 15 September

  • Director/Choreographer - Marion Baird

  • Musical Director - Barrie McKillop

  • Assistant Director/Producer - Colin Johnston

  • Assistant Musical Director - Erik Igelström

For the first time in GMT's history, choreographer Marion Baird will both direct and choreograph..... She will be reunited with Musical Director Barrie McKillop (A Chorus Line, The Threepenny Opera) and joined by Erik Igelström (On Another Note, Into the Woods) and production-team newcomer Colin Johnston.

Based on the iconic 1983 film, Flashdance is an unmistakably feel-good musical about holding onto your dreams and love against all the odds. Featuring an instantly recognisable score including smash hits ‘Maniac’, ‘Manhunt’, and Academy Award winning title track ‘Flashdance – What a Feeling’ it tells the story of 18 year old Alex, a welder by day and pole-dancer by night, who dreams she can win a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. Trying to balance her relationship with her boss against her loyalty to her friends, and discovering painful lessons about life and loss, Alex strives to find her own way forward, knowing that “being’s believing”.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

Tue 5 - Sat 9 May 2015, Webster's Theatre

(formerly the Lansdowne Church)

  • Director - Alasdair MacRae

  • Musical Director - Erik Igelström

Following the success of Into the Woods and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Musical Director Erik Igelström wields the baton for the first time and is joined by GMT’s resident videographer Alasdair MacRae in the director’s chair, fresh from his role as Assistant Director for Merrily We Roll Along.

Based on a true story, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, is a surprisingly family-friendly take on the oldest profession in the world. Miss Mona runs a respectable house, with gentlemanly behaviour expected of all her 'guests'. Her high standards mean her establishment is known and respected across the whole state of Texas, catering to experienced state governors and fresh-faced college football teams alike. But when a local TV journalist sets his cap at taking down corruption in the state, it appears Miss Mona’s days are numbered - however much the local sheriff may want to turn a blind eye to her charms...
